EU-funded project \u201cGeorgian Civil Society
\nSustainability Initiative\u201d is launching an informational campaign to prevent
\nthe spread of COVID-19 in Georgia. It will be implemented with the help of the
\n10 regional hubs, partnering businesses, local government bodies, volunteer
\ngroups, and local and international civil society organizations.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

Informing and updating the population during
\nthe pandemic is of critical importance for their readiness to respond
\nappropriately, make well-considered decisions, and take adequate measures to
\nprotect their health and safety. According to the World Health Organization
\n(WHO), physical distancing and personal hygiene are the most important means to
\nbe applied by citizens to stop the further spread of the Coronavirus and to
\nflatten the curve.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the ongoing massive informational
\ncampaigns through traditional and social media, as well as social networks,
\ncrucial information is still not available to all parts of the population –
\nespecially some of the risk groups. This includes amongst other residents of
\ncross-border regions and remote villages, IDPs living in compact settlements,
\nthe elderly, and ethnic minorities. Hence, also the risk of quickly spreading
\nmisinformation within these groups is high and likely.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, the developed campaign aims to
\ninform the population of 647 identified high-risk locations (cities, villages, regional
\ncenters, and settlements) throughout all ten regions of Georgia. It covers
\ndetailed descriptions of the preventive measures against the spread of the
\nvirus as well as contact details of relevant institutions such as the<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

Emergency Response Centre 112, the Public
\nSafety Management Centre, the Ministry of Health, the National Centre for
\nDisease Control and the government\u2019s encompassing 1st-level hotline.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

To achieve, what media campaigns could not
\nachieve yet, the above-described basic information was placed on products of
\ndaily consumption including bread. In cooperation with the local business
\npartners \u2018Elva\u2019, LTD \u2018Madliani 1\u2019, LTD \u2018Leko\u2019, LTD \u2018Vasadze Bread\u2019, LTD
\n\u2018Khelvachauri Bread Products\u2019, LTD \u2018Nagdi Puri\u2019 and LTD \u2018Tsinba\u2019 \u2013 highly
\ntrustable and socially responsible companies in Imereti, Adjara, Samegrelo, and
\nGuria \u2013 a total of 173.760 loaves of bread were equipped with special stickers
\nand distributed within the target population.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, 22.500 bags for grocery with
\nprinted information be delivered to grocery stores for free-of-charge usage in
\nthe villages. Such bags will also be provided to the local and central
\ngovernment agencies as they deliver products to vulnerable groups across all
\nmunicipalities.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

The project \u201cGeorgian Civil Society
\nSustainability Initiative\u201d, is implemented by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung
\n(KAS) in cooperation with the Civil Society Institute (CSI), the Consultation
\nand Training Center (CTC), the Center for Strategic Research and Development of
\nGeorgia (CSRDG) and the Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC). The
\nproject is funded by the European Union (EU) and co-funded by the
