The Education Development and Employment
\nCenter (EDEC) conducted a four-day training in Borjomi to strengthen Advisory
\nCouncils for people with disabilities within the local government.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

Lika Kiladze, Chairperson of the Board of the
\nEducation Development and Employment Center (EDEC) introduced the training
\ngoals. Later on the first day of the training, participants got familiar with
\nthe results of the research conducted by the Advisory Board. They were
\npresented by Tamar Makharadze, Associate Professor from the Faculty of Social
\nand Political Sciences at the Tbilisi State University.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

On the second day, the participants discussed
\nthe labels related to disability conditions, as well as the meaning and
\nimportance of social models. Neli Akobia, Master of Social Work, talked about
\nthe need-based social policies and about the modern approaches in disability
\nclassification.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

On the third day of the training, the
\nConvention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and other international
\nor local documents and action plans were presented by Irina Oboladze, Head of
\nthe Department for the Rights of People with Disabilities at the Public
\nDefender’s Office. Later on, Giga Sopromadze, Executive Secretary of the
\nCouncil working with people with disabilities in Tbilisi City Hall talked
\nabout successful cases when people with disabilities were involved in the
\nimplementation of the Convention.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n

On the last day of the training, participants summarized
\nthe training and planned future activities.<\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The training was organized as part of the EU-funded
\nproject \u201cEqual Opportunities for People with Disabilities.\u201d It is implemented
\nby Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Georgia (ASB Georgia) in cooperation with its
\npartner organizations, the Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC)
