On February 7th, The Education Development and
Employment Center (EDEC) summarized last year’s activities of the civic
education program “Future Generation”. Schools, pupils, and teachers
were awarded at the annual event.

Marina Ushveridze, director of the program “Future
Generation,” delivered a speech at the annual event.

Natia Namicheishvili, Executive Director of
Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC), presented the 2018 activity
outcomes. Moreover, Sophio Murusidze, coordinator of the Civic Education
Teachers’ Forum in Imereti and Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti, talked about the
activities implemented by her organization.

Ten schools of the Imereti region were awarded
laptops for the best activities implemented by school’s civic clubs. All
projects underlined the importance of civic education, gender equality, a healthy
lifestyle, child rights and cooperation with local government.

Beka Kupatadze, student at the school in the
village Katskhi in the Chiatura municipality, was awarded a book of novels by
the writer Grigol Robakidze. Beka wrote a letter to the President of the
Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. He criticized Putin for his politics toward
Georgia and Ukraine and analyzed it from a historical perspective as a legacy
of the Soviet Union.

Zviad Nikabadze, civic education teacher at
the public school in the village Ilemi in the Zestaponi municipality, was
awarded a tablet.

The
program “Future Generation” aims to improve the curriculum of civic
education in schools. It also encourages pupils to apply their theoretical education.
It is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and
financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In
the Imereti region, the initiative is implemented by PH International in
partnership with the Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC).
