The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the process of social inclusion of persons with disabilities by increasing the quality of inclusive education at public schools in Georgia.
Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC) held online presentations of the Project on July 16, 21, 28, and 31. The online presentations were attended by up to 100 representatives of schools, universities, and vocational education institutions, disabled people’s organizations (DPOs), and service provider organizations throughout Georgia.
The Project is implemented with the support of the Erasmus + Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) program. It is coordinated by the Center for Research on Issues of Persons with Disabilities established at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of Ivane Javakishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU). As a result, at the Faculty, 10-11 new academic modules will be introduced, which will help future school teachers to enhance professional competencies in working with students with special educational needs (SEN).
The new modules are planned to pilot from the spring semester of 2021 in the partner Georgian universities. Meanwhile, Georgian partners will work on the development of the new curriculum and the reading material with the active involvement of foreigners. During 3 years, the Project will support the collaboration of the universities, schools, and non-governmental organizations. The collaboration network will be formed in order to support the development of inclusive education. Within the project, a yearly national conference will be established, which will inform about achievements and challenges in inclusive education.
