Online meeting on “Developing the capabilities of Councils
working for people with disabilities and the challenges posed by the COVID-19
pandemic” – Kakheti

The meeting was attended by heads and members of councils
for people with disabilities, and by representatives of PwD communities from two
municipalities of Kakheti– Telavi and Gurjaani; it was chaired by Natia
Namicheishvili, Executive Director of the Education Development and Employment
Center (EDEC).

As part of the event, Giga Sopromadze, Executive Secretary
of the Tbilisi Municipal Council for Persons with Disabilities, presented
“Guidelines for the Establishment and Effective Operation of the Council
for people with disabilities” created within the frames of the project
“Equal opportunities for the people with disabilities” to the participants of
the meeting. Purpose of the guideline is to promote the fulfillment of all
obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities,
and to increase the effectiveness of activities carried out by government
agencies to support people with disabilities.

The discussion was held within the framework of the EU-funded
project “Equal Opportunities for People with Disabilities.” It is implemented
by Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Georgia (ASB Georgia) in cooperation with its
partner organizations, the Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC)
and the Accessible Environment for Everyone.
