Objective: To protect the rights of children with disabilities and support their full integration into society.

Target group(s): Children with disabilities, society in general, local government, media outlets, private sector.

Beneficiaries: Children with disabilities (age 6 to 18) and their family members

General activities:

  1. Elaboration and implementation of individual rehabilitation/ habilitation plans;
  2. Providing beneficiaries with supportive tools such as specially adopted furniture that allows children with disabilities to use their skills and abilities better;
  3. Considering individual skills of beneficiaries and respective design of integrated activities and events such as study visits, sports competitions, excursions, and cognitive activities;
  4. Integrated activities like drawing, singing, and physical training;
  5. Offering therapy, work, profession-related and social activities that support beneficiaries’ full integration in our society;
  6. Development of professional and vocational skills;
  7. Teaching time management skills, effective communication, decision-making, active participation in debates and conflict resolution;
  8. Using interdisciplinary approaches with parents and/or guardians to develop skills essential for their children’s development;
  9. Raising awareness of and preparing children with disabilities and their parents for inclusive education.

Completed Projects

Name: Re-Opening of Four Day Care Centres for People with Disabilities in Georgia 2020 after Compulsory Corona-Closure

Implementation period: 09.2020-08.2021

Implementation area: Kutaisi, Samtredia, Terjola, Saguramo

Donors /Partners: Renovabis (Solidarity initiative of the German Catholics with the people in Central and Eastern Europe)

Overall Budget: € 20,234

Objective: Re-opening of four Day Care Centers (DCCs) for people with disabilities in regional areas of Georgia in September 2020 and the safe continuation of all pre-pandemic services.

Target group(s): DCCs, staff and beneficiaries of the DCCs, potential donors and supporters

Beneficiaries: 73 beneficiaries of the Day Care Centers

Planned activities:
1. Regular physical day care center operation with increased hygienе standards;
2. Regular disinfection of surfaces;
3. Regular hand disinfection for beneficiaries and staff;
4. Usage of special cleaning agents for inside and outside;
5. Usage of safety equipment like gloves and masks for staff and visitors;
6. Hiring of additional cleaning staff;
7. Monitoring of temperature and well-being of beneficiaries, staff and visitors.

Expected results:
1. Safe re-opening and running of EDEC’s four day care centers from September 2020 for the entire project duration of 12 months;
2. Provision of the pre-pandemic services;
3. Return of at least 95% of our beneficiaries within the first three project months or replacement of beneficiaries with new beneficiaries to keep the total number;
4. Increased awareness of and support by local/regional/national officials, companies, charities and the church of day care services for people with disabilities.

Name: Strengthening Parents and Effective Coordination of Local Resources

Implementation period: 2012

Implementation area: Imereti Region, Terjola Municipality

Donors /Partners: Save the Children International – Georgia Country Office

Objective: To increase the involvement of parents of children with disabilities in the process of advocacy and protection of their children’s rights.

Beneficiaries: Parents of children with disabilities based in Terjola Municipality

Implemented activities:

  1. Trainings for members of the Coordinating Council and for the parents of children with disabilities;
  2. Information campaign to raise awareness about the rights of children with disabilities.
  3. An advocacy campaign to consider the needs of people with disabilities in the municipal budget has been launched.

Achieved results:

  1. A parents’ club has been established in Terjola municipality;
  2. A Coordinating Council has been established for Persons with Disabilities;

Name: Inclusive and Integrated Education Model for Children with Disabilities

Implementation period: 2010-2011

Implementation area: Imereti, Kutaisi

Objective: To promote the full integration of children with disabilities into society and to provide them with equal opportunities.

Beneficiaries: 7-to-11-year-old children with disabilities

Implemented activities:

  1. Teachers have been trained in inclusive and integrated teaching techniques;
  2. A special program for integrated education has been designed.

Achieved results:

  1. Successful application of the new program within a pilot class;
  2. A new model of inclusive education has been implemented.

Implementation period: 2010

Implementation area: Imereti, Kutaisi

Objective: To solve problems of children deprived of care and practical implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Georgia

Target group(s): Health and Social Programs Agency, Local Government, Business Sector

Beneficiaries: 6-to-18-year-old children deprived of care who are not able to return to their families or unconsidered for adoption, educational institutions of children and the residents of orphanages; Persons offering foster care.

Implemented activities:

  1. Strengthening families to enable beneficiaries’ return to their origins;
  2. Promoting the independent living of beneficiaries;
  3. Promoting the transfer of caregivers to alternative child care services.

Achieved results:

  1. Implementation of small family-type homes;
