On May 28th, the Education Development and
Employment Center (EDEC) held a round table meeting in Borjomi about supporting
services for people with disabilities. Here, respective needs, problems, and
challenges were discussed.
Lika Kiladze, Chairperson of the Board of the
Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC) presented the ongoing project
and the discussion topics. The mayor of Borjomi Municipality, Levan Lapartia,
greeted all participants.
Afterward, Mariam Gelashvili, representative
of the local PwD community talked about the daily challenges they face. Giga
Sopromadze, Executive Secretary of the Council working on People with Disabilities
in Tbilisi City Hall, talked about their support services.
Also, family members of people with
disabilities joined the event and talked about the hardships they face every
day. Deputy Mayor of Borjomi Municipality Buba Beridze presented opportunities
for solving those challenges and their future plan in this regard.
The discussion was held within the framework of the EU-funded project “Equal Opportunities for People with
Disabilities.” It is implemented by Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Georgia (ASB
Georgia) in cooperation with its partner organizations, the Education
Development and Employment Center (EDEC) and Accessible Environment for
Everyone.
