The winners of the Media Competition were announced

The winners of the media competition were announced in Tbilisi. The focus of the competition was the rights of people with disabilities. 

It aimed to improve the standard of coverage of issues related to persons with disabilities, to promote their individual abilities, and to reduce the related stigma,  discrimination and stereotypes within society.

Therefore journalists were able to present their work samples in four categories:  TV program.  radio program,  article in a print medium, and online media production.

37 journalists presented 77 works during the 9-month period of the competition. The materials were reviewed by a jury consisting out of  five media experts. Unfortunately, the jury couldn’t identify  a winner in the radio broadcasting category. Therefore, two winners were announced in the TV program category instead. 

The four winners  announced were

  • TV Program: Giorgi Gvishiani (Rustavi 2) and Ana Mezvrishvili (GPB)
  • Online Media Production: Teona Bekishvili (online newspaper  mastsavlebeli.ge
  • Article in a print medium: Iveta Tsitaishvili (Liberali)

The fair was organized within the framework of the project “Educate, Employ, Advocate and Legislate for Equal Opportunities for People with Disabilities” (EEAL) implemented by Kutaisi Education Development and Employment Center (KEDEC)* along with the Telavi Education Development and Employment Center and the Georgian Committee of the International Campaign to ban landmines “Ottawa -98” with financial assistance of the European Union.
