The winning project from Tsageri Municipality

“We will put in our best effort to recruit more volunteers to join our project and expand our scope of work. Additionally, we will strive to gather more secondary raw materials and hand them over to the relevant processing companies. This will enable us to make our modest contribution towards protecting the environment since effective waste management is the key to maintaining a clean environment.”

Lamzira Oniani. The leading chemistry-biology teacher of Dekhviri village public school of Tsageri municipality.

As a teacher, I have been actively participating in various projects related to environmental protection for a long time. Through these projects, students, teachers, and members of the community have benefited greatly. Specifically, the projects have helped raise awareness of environmental protection issues, provided various material resources for the school, and improved students’ skills in labor, creativity, and communication.

I came across the “Civil Initiatives” competition on a social network which was announced by the Education Development Center. I found it interesting and decided to participate. Thanks to the grant I received, I was able to make our school’s dream come true. We purchased colored waste sorting bins, added appropriate inscriptions, and placed them in various public places such as Dekhvir public school and garden, Lasuriash public school, Sakrebulo, resource center, ritual halls, and market. All the student-teachers from Dekhvir Public School are working together with the support of Mrs. Khatuna Khetsuriani to implement this volunteer idea.

This project is aimed at raising awareness about volunteering amongst all members of the school community, including students, teachers, administrative and technical staff, community representatives, and parents. By promoting the sharing of knowledge, kindness, and experience through the volunteering digital platform “Volunteer.ge”, we hope to encourage more people to get involved. Additionally, everyone involved in the project will learn more about effective waste management and will be able to put their theoretical knowledge into practice by voluntarily participating in waste collection. We believe that this will motivate others to become more active in environmental protection issues.

We are grateful for the support we received from the local government of Tsageri (city hall, city council, and resource center). Their help has been invaluable in making this project a success. Various activities carried out within the framework of our project were featured on the official page of Tsageri municipality, which helped to increase awareness of the project in the community.
